Passing of Past Commander Earl Elbert Heath.

January 27, 1939 - April 15, 2012

Earl Heath

Earl Elbert Heath, 81, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 8, 2012 at the Liberty Village Health Care Center following a brief illness. He was born on, April 7, 1931, in Springport, Indiana, the son of Ezra and Evelyn (Herrin) Heath. Mr. Heath was a 1949 graduate of Cowan High School. He had served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean War. Later he would be involved with various veterans organizations such as the AMVETS where he served at the National Commander. He is a past Post Commander from 1967-1969, Department Commander from 1970-1971 and as the National vice Commander of Programs from 1972-1973, and is a Life Member of Post #4 Cowan, Indiana. In addition Earl was the Chairman of nearly all of the National Committees in AMVETS for 15 years. Mr. Heath has been active in veteran's affairs since 1954, and served as the Director of Veterans Affairs for the State of Indiana appointed by Governor Whitcomb from 1969-1977, during which time he also served as the Administrator for Indiana's Cash Bonus to its Viet Nam Veterans. Earl founded the Americans Retirement Association and also the Direct Marketing Association of Indianapolis. Earl has served in senior positions in marketing and public relations for a number of major companies in the financial services industry. Surviving are three sisters, Lois Cummings (husband, James), Seymour, Imogene Bennett and Linda Heath both of Houston, Texas; one brother, Russell Heath, Campbellsburg, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Carter and one brother, Carl Heath. Graveside services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery. Pastor Tom Mansbarger will officiate. Burial will follow at the Veterans Administration National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana. Parson Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Military Honors will be provided by the Delaware County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the AMVETS of Muncie Post #12, 2520 W. Kilgore Ave.; Muncie, IN 47304. Passing of Edward Green "Ed" Baker Jr.

Baker, Edward Green, Jr. "Ed" Age 73, of Merrillville, Ind. died, Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Methodist Southlake Hospital. Edward was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 27, 1939 to Eddie Green and Lula Baker. He retired from LTV Steel, East Chicago Indiana and Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by both parents and step-mother Naomi Baker and one brother. He is survived by two sons, Stanford Carter (Denise), Edward, III (Chantelle), three daughters, Laura, Kicia and Alisa Baker. He also leaves one sister, Harriet Ross. One uncle, George Baker, special cousin, Julius Baker, special niece, Darlene Hood (Marshall). He also leaves 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and a host of other family and friends. Eddie was honorably discharged from the Army in 1958. He served as Service Foundation President in Indianapolis, Ind. He also served as Commander of Amvets Post 6. Eddie was the recipient of many awards and accolades received from his position at the Chicago Transit and for his tireless efforts at the Amvets Post 6. Eddie was also a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. Visitation will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 from 12:00pm - 8:00pm family hours from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Funeral Service Saturday, April 21, 2012. All service at the Guy & Allen Chapel. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park, Hobart, Indiana.
